In all honesty, I went in Small Favors by Erin A. Craig with such high expectations after completely falling in love with her work from House of Salt and Sorrows. There were moments where I had to stop myself from constantly comparing the two, and seeing which one I preferred.
If you haven’t read “From Blood and Ash” and you want to go in unbiased, skip this review for now because this might taint that.
There’s a blurb at the back of my The Sword of Kaigen copy that reads: “The Poppy War’s darkness meets The Last Airbender’s elemental magic.”
It might have been an “accident” of sorts that I checked out An Accident of Stars, but it’s one I’m definitely going to see through to the end.
Give me flashbacks, time manipulation, and all that jazz, and I’m sold. But an entire world that works with time as currency? YES.
if you want to get lost in an entirely new universe that’s not as far from our own reality, I highly, highly, recommend the Keeper of the Lost Cities. You’re not going to regret adopting all these fictional characters!
